OLS Reflections Oitenta e Cinco — The Irreverently Unfun Ones

OLS Reflections Oitenta e Cinco — The Irreverently Unfun Ones by Omar Cherif, One Lucky Soul

• Transcend all bullshit, especially your own. And while floating up there you can also transcend the social ladder: Choose to levitate.

Getting massages for 30 years you come to notice an additional lesser-known benefit: It tends to keep you somewhat physically fit. Because getting naked around strangers inspires one to look at least presentable.

For nudists, this probably goes without saying. It follows that if getting fit is what you seek then simply become a nudist.

If you love someone, set them free. If they don’t come back, they were never yours. If they do, set them on fire and see what happens.

• Do you know that October is National Sarcastic Awareness Month?

Now isn’t that a phenomenally useful bit of info.

On as less sarcastic note, sarcasm is a gift to and from humanity. It’s fun, witty, and it sparks creative thinking in oneself and others — despite remaining a foreign language to some. This communicating tool tends to improve social bonding. As an ironic speech act, sarcasm requires abstract thinking, likewise making it a catalyst for innovation and is therefore healthy for the mind.

With that, if I comment on your social media posts, I probably like you; if I comment with sarcasm, I most certainly do. If then you, too, reply back with sarcasm, let us maybe date.

Another less-celebrated benefit of sarcasm is that it can also makes you appear more tolerant... to the slow ones who miss it. Bwahaha
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

• Man, there is nothing like waking up still pixilated after one of those wild nights that leave you looking like a Picasso the next day to find yourself sleeping next to a nameless woman — without having any idea how she got there, what happened, or why there is a man in full Ancient Roman military attire only with a unicorn hat stabbed in the neck with a wine opener. Could that be a sign to stop partying so wackily?, asking for a friend.

• The few rare times I met someone who said they were a “chemist” the psychonaut in me instantly wanted to befriend them before possibly turning them on.

As for that one anaesthesiologist schoolmate, I publicly asked him in the WhatsApp group if he could secure me some carfentanil*
— an elephant tranquilliser that is 100 times more potent than deadly fentanyl and, wait for it, 10,000 times more potent than morphine. Dude! Why this exists? Veterinary medicine and super-large animals apparently. But of course humans will keep finding elaborate ways to kill themselves.

I wonder how surprised the guy was of my knowledge of such rare and obscure substance, knowing it was some years back before even fentanyl becoming this threatening global phenomenon.

*On a way more serious note, Opiated Then Hatin’ It and Addiction Talk: My Correspondence With a 31-Year-Old Reader Before He Passed Away delve deeper into the topic.

• You know the relationship is not going anywhere worth going whenever you would sometimes catch yourself shooting videos when together — usually in nature — while making sure not to include them in the frame. Thereby you don’t have to worry one day about editing or not being able to use certain parts. If or more likely when you happen to use the footage, your future self will not stop thanking you for having been such a nimble, astute, and thoughtful visionary. O’ to the unbearable beauty of true romance. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

• While at a Café a couple of guys sitting nearby were deep in a heavy-duty conversation. The cheerful one looked at his buddy and asked why he seemed so down and out.

The sad one leaned in, voice low with regret: “Man, I was watching a porno in the bedroom when my girlfriend opened the door. It was one of those extreme types... don’t judge me.”

“Well, it happens,” his friend replied, trying to be the voice of reason. “I’ve done it with mine sleeping right next to me in bed. We’re men with hormones — most women are well aware of that fact.”

Listening to this, I couldn’t help but drift back to an ex who once woke up to find me doing the same. She was slightly offended — mostly that I didn’t wake her up instead — but she went back to sleep minutes later. In retrospect, that was probably a telling indicator of where the relationship was headed.

So yes I do concur that it does happen between couples. On the other hand there are those fun, kinky ones who enjoy watching together.

Another flashback from earlier years is when I was once awoken by a kick in the thigh. But why? A different lover had dreamt of me cheating on her. Uhu, A perfectly logical reason for a physical assault, of course.

Back at the Café, the sad man exhaled a long, visibly pained sigh. He leaned even closer his buddy, his voice trembling with genuine loss: “The door in the fuckin’ movie.” 🙃 🙃

• I’d love to have children one day. Two days max.

A legit reason to have a baby boy is to dress him in your favourite team’s jersey then go around telling people how much you’re proud of him because he just happens to cheer for the same team.
Total coincidence. We could call him Aaaron Llloyd and get him a pet lllama.

• Say Cheese?!

A fellow psychonaut knew that the brain releases so much dopamine during an orgasm, a brain scan then resembles that of someone on heroin. So he would often have sex on heroin to double the bliss. Okay.

Then one day he came to find out that cheese contains an actual narcotic chemical, casein, which likewise triggers dopamine production in the brain and its opioid receptors. It thereby affects the reward system and induces cravings, similar to drugs like heroin and morphine. This can make cheese among other dairies [mildly] addictive. Personally, enjoying cheese and eggs was in fact the only reason I never ventured to go fully vegan.

Back to the anecdote, even though you probably know where it’s going — or maybe not — so I’ll carry on anyway. Inspired by the newly acquired knowledge, and in an effort to get triple-high, our oddball had the usual sex on heroin, then right before climaxing he took out a full block of Red Cheddar from under the pillow and bit right into it with his entire face. To the utter befuddlement of the woman and amid a wild variety of grunts, squeals, barks he reportedly had a 12-minute pig-like orgasm. It has been said over the grapevine that the commotion was so phenomenally loud that night, even the neighbours had to share a smoke afterwards before taking a shower. Absolutely true story, man, certainly no April Fools’.* Oink!

Strangely, or not really, “cheese” is a relatively new type of heroin that made an appearance about 20 years ago; it is a mix of [Mexican] black tar heroin and over-the-counter tablets containing diphenhydramine HCl, commonly Tylenol PM, and usually acetaminophen as well. Cheese is apparently prevalent in middle and high schools in the U.S, perhaps for obvious reasons. And like it’s less adulterated older sister, it has caused many deaths over the years. Oh well. Whoever came up with the name must have known about the aforementioned addictive properties of dairy products.

As for the guy, fortunately for him he eventually quit chasing opiates and did become vegan for a while. But then the cravings for cheese, the actual cheese, were too much to bear and he did go back to it. Can we blame him?

*Disclaimer: Do NOT try this at home… or anywhere else. For the deviant protagonist here could very well be a figment of my imagination [you never know with kids these days and all their mindless challenges].

**The below imagine is nacho cheesy.

OLS Reflections Quatre-Vingt-Trois — The Audaciously Unfun Ones

OLS Reflections Quatre-Vingt-Trois — The Flamboyantly Unfun Ones by Omar Cherif, One Lucky Soul

Whenever skimming through my earlier creations, sometimes years later, I am often reminded by the E. L. Doctorow quote “Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia”.

After chuckling to myself, especially when it comes to the OLS Reflections — The Unfun Ones series [as well as Words I Made Up], I may be also reminded by another from Some Soulful Writing Quotes:

If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.
― Ray Bradbury

A fool one truly ought to be to indulge in this social schizophrenia we call writing. Now with the Internet, the lunacy might be contagious. Whatever the outcome, Creativity [can and] Shall Set You Free.

With that out of the way, here are the latest babies. Enjoint.

Fool me once, the man will eat for a day. Lead a horse to water, shame on him who drinks for a lifetime.

• Transcend the social ladder. Choose to levitate.

• Looking at what people post on social media nowadays, I often feel grateful that during our wacky Hey-Daze times of going out to bars, pubs, clubs, and parties till the mid-late 90s camera phones were not a thing yet.

Equal appreciation, if not more, that TicToc was not around in the following 10 years when one was employed. Just imagining a couple of 22-year-old coworkers in the back area of a 5-star hotel reception suddenly breaking out into some random, awkward dance with lame nonsensical yet choreographed moves — mid shift — while being filmed by another compels one to shake their head and raise their eyebrows.

Do you know that the current gender-neutral, politically correct ‘woke’ term for Sugar Daddies and Sugar Mommas is “Sucrose-Glucose-Fructose Guardian”? It’s obviously Non-GMO.

I wholeheartedly cherish punctual people who deal in single minutes. “Meet you at 3:47”. Yey, one is not alone!

We’ve got to give it up for Facebook for always striving to make their users more friendly with each other while remaining connected. Adding the “snooze for 30 days” option after years of only ‘unfollow’ is quite the smart move. Whether you unfollow people/groups/pages for excessive postings — about politics, religion, New-Age mumbo jumbo, sports, animal-rights petitions, commerciality, babies, whining, selfies — or due to ignorance, bigotry, superficiality, it’s sort of a permanent action. That is, if you don’t feel like the more dramatic ‘unfriend’ or ‘unlike’. ‘Snooze’ on the other hand is a temporary break.

See, before this somewhat novel option sometimes you would manually refollow an account only to find that their first post to plague your newsfeed is an uncanny reminder of why you had unfollowed them in the first place; so you are compelled to re-unfollow them one more time — probably for good. Snoozing, however, is gentler: It gives you the chance to reevaluate the posts in your feeds once every single month. Maybe they’ve changed, maybe you have. Not bad, Facebook, not bad at all.

• No one gives exes the [silent] finger more than those who only start to get in shape right past divorce or separation. Simply by showing them that they were not worth their own good health nor deserved their own well-being.

The cannibal who likes to meat people is called Cheech K. Bob. Whenever late for dinner, he usually gets the cold shoulder. Otherwise he has a ball.

• Sometimes while waiting in line by the grocery store cashier(s) I would catch myself watching the food and drinks people buy before looking at their physical appearance, trying to either validate or refute preconceived notions about dietary habits. This mainly occurs in North America where places tend to be bigger and there is more to observe. From skinny vegan to morbidly obese, there is also significant variety to include in my little mental study.

“Running” for President is one bizarre expression. It implies they are either sporty or afraid — or a bit of both.

OLS Reflections 81 — The Flamboyantly Unfun Ones

OLS Reflections 80 — The Flamboyantly Unfun Ones by Omar Cherif, One Lucky Soul

When the OLS Reflections series was first incepted in 2014 I had absolutely no idea that it will carry on for ten years and counting. As mentioned in the very first list-article,
I will try to arrange them by topic, but probably they will be grouped according to how serious/less serious they are”. Eventually by the third article, OLS Reflections Tre — The Mildly Unfun Ones, the humorous Unfun sub-category came to being. Today there are over 20 out of the total 80 here on One Lucky Soul, amounting to 200 ha-has to lighten up your existence along with 600 more serious reflections.

Another idea proposed in the first article is that I might add the topics in the label à la Goodreads. While this proved to be somewhat impractical, more than 130 of the OLS Reflections actually made it to Goodreads as quotes. One day they shall all be compiled into a book or two. Onward Forward.

Now let us see whats in store this time.

• Whenever seeing a grown-ass adult drinking milk with their dinner — or lunch — I’m always tempted to burp out loud. By ‘see’ I mean in a movie or something, because I don’t know any serial killers.

• Talking to yourself is perfectly normal. Answering back is a different story.

• “Are you more into Dostoevsky or Bukawski?”, he smugly asked — trying to show off his literary knowledge.

“Uhm, well I snowboarded once. But I’m more of a rollerblades person myself” was the reply.

• Somewhere out there is a rat feeling stuck in a routine, pointlessly competitive, self-defeating work-life existence and is blaming it all on the “Human Race”.

Whenever someone throws a tantrum I usually duck. Other times I goose. Not to crow, but I never quail or chicken out from such fowl play.

Regular massages tend to keep you fit. I don’t know about you, but if am going to get naked around someone, I want to be looking at least presentable... if not somewhat hot.

“Iran in the morning, then Iraq in the afternoon.”
— Persistently, Americans who don’t say (Eye-)taly

Next time you hear someone confidently ascertain “Everything happens for a reason” just slap their face. When they ask why you have done so, act bewildered and confess that you have no idea. “Must be part of The Plan. You should know though. Aren’t mindless, irritating, thought-terminating platitudes your special department?” could then follow.

I want to make viral social media videos so I’m buying a car. Where else can one record themselves talking to a screen?

*Remember this trend? Yeah, it was everywhere two/three years ago, which explains how the above
— among others — was recently salvaged from the 2740 pages long (898,164 words) Reflection file on Pages simply by going up. But those peeps still exist, so I still have to get that car.

Whoever is freaking out about Artificial Intelligence has not fully considered the inconceivably impregnable power of Natural Stupidity.

OLS Reflections Setenta e Cinco — The Dazzlingly Unfun Ones

Omar Cherif mid sunset jamming by the Venice Beach Boardwalk, June 2015

  • Monogamy, monotony, monophagy, monocracy, monopoly, monogyny, monody, monotone, monorail, monotonous, monologue, monotheism, monocrystal, monochrome, monozygotic, mononucleosis, monotherapy, monoamine oxidase inhibitor… .

Uhm, I forgot where this list was going. Though it sounds uncolourful, unappealing, even lonesome.

Oh yes, it came back: Marriage, you see, is called an ‘institution’ because you must be somewhat mental to get into it. You first seek asylum but then end up living in one.

You don’t see it? Well, consider how in Spanish, ‘esposas’ means wives as well as handcuffs. Uhu. Also in Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian, ‘married’ and ‘poison’ share the same word, ‘Gift’! Quite ironic for English-speakers.

But hey rest assured, these are absolutely nothing but linguistic coincidences. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Did they ever unfriend you when they got married then shamelessly re-friended you — or attempted to — when they got divorced?

  • How weird is it to let her sleep in a separate room after sex — from 1 to 10?

  • There should be a word for that intense inexplicable joy when you come across a certain surface with so must dust on it and you know you’re about to be the first one to wipe it in possibly 50 years.

  • This past year has seen so many deaths, that whenever now someone tells me “Sorry for your loss” — among other messages of condolences — I reply with: “Ah, thank you. We’re all gonna die.” You know, just a dose of reality to make it easier on both of us.

  • He followed his dreams but they wouldn’t follow him back. So he unfollowed them.

  • During his seizure of power Caesar had a seizure. See, ‘Tsar’ originates from Caesar while Caesar salad does not.

  • I don’t bite — unless we’ll both enjoy it.

  • His vocabulary is so expansively extensive and extensively expensive, words often dance on the tip of his tongue — creating novel linguistic hybrids in the process. Other times they’re mixed up missed steaks.

  • Several severely savvy suave saviours saved Varsity’s vision by serving savoury visors as souvenirs.

OLS Reflections Settantatre — The Flagrantly Unfun Ones

OLS Reflections Settantatre — The Flagrantly Fun Ones by Omar Cherif, One Lucky Soul
  • Right between Seventh Heaven and Cloud Nine there is a Magic Eight-Ball.

  • As a kid I once fell into a well. The experience remained quite traumatic until I learned to let go of the hole thing. O’ well.

  • There is something about drinking water in a coffee mug and coffee in a “water glass” that makes it unappealing.

  • I never just flirt with disaster. We cum together and then we snuggle.

  • Discarding the large garbage bag in the kitchen and forgetting to replace it with a new one then while making eggs later you throw away the drippy shells straight into the garbage and Noooo! It’s remarkable how only when it’s airborne do you remember there is no plastic bag. Obviously not before, but usually not much after either. The action and the thought are occurring almost at the same time. Eugh! Off to washing the insides. Top Five most annoying kitchen happenings — Fo Sho.

  • You’re not a real man until you can change attire in less than five minutes.

  • Throughout 10 years of cooking I don’t think I’ve ever used just one clove of garlic — even when the recipe says so.

  • I’ve always been a walking paradox… until I learned to sit down.

  • Marriage is called an ‘institution’ because you must be somewhat mental to get into it. You first seek asylum but then end up living in one. You don’t see it? Well, consider how in Spanish, ‘esposas’ means wives as well as handcuffs. Uhu. Also in Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian, ‘married’ and ‘poison’ share the same word: ‘Gift’! Quite ironic for English-speakers, huh. But hey, rest assured, these are absolutely nothing but linguistic coincidences.

Marriage jokes aside, if I’ll ever decide to get into a romantic relationship again, I have three matters to investigate first: Do you agree with “Correlation does not imply causation” and what does it mean to you? The second would be finding out if she’s one of those travellers who clap right after a plane lands, thinking that the pilot can hear them. A final stop would be taking them to a trip somewhere where the Internet is ridiculously slow — just to get to know who they truly are at the core. Then we see... and only then.

  • When you only have sex in the missionary position it shows on your face.

OLS Reflections 71 — The Frightfully Unfun Ones

OLS Reflections 71 — The Frightfully Fun Ones by Omar Cherif, One Lucky Soul

  • I knew of a girl whose brother worked for the second cousin of the neighbour of the latter’s redheaded buddy who went visiting a forest one afternoon in 1992 where he spotted a large number of trees. How uniquely spectacular that was that.

  • Every time someone tells me you’re overthinking it I overthink it.

  • Sometimes you need to get off your high horse and hop on your drunk unicorn.

  • If during the decade working for corporate you didn’t impress me enough when we first met, I’ve most likely made filter tips out of your business card. So Thank You, I guess.

  • The sex was so phenomenally wild last night, even the neighbours woke up smiling yet still shy to look into each other’s eyes.

  • Every time a clothes hanger with a non-rotating hook breaks in my hands I rejoice in pure ecstasy.

  • Did you know October is National Sarcastic Awareness Month? Now isn’t that a phenomenally useful bit of info!

  • I once sank into madness. Thankfully I remained alive when a purple tie-dye inflatable unicorn gave me a horn. Then my hand slipped when once again I lost my grip on reality. What not to say: I had let my mind wander and it never came back.

  • What if Trump was, unbeknownst to him, channelling an apocalyptic event from the near future that is Covid-19 when he famously shared “Covfefe” with the entire world?

  • I wonder if rats who feel stuck in a routine self-defeating life blame it on the “Human Race”.
