OLS Reflections 77

OLS Reflections 77 by Omar Cherif, One Lucky Soul

  • Emotional maturity has nothing to do with our actual age.

  • “9 to 5”! What a truly bizarre way of wasting one’s life away. O’ The Circus.

  • One terrifying difference between fiction and reality is that the first has to make sense while the latter often doesn’t.

  • That which breaks your heart doesn’t have to also break your spirit. Just turn the page; there is a whole book ahead.

  • It must be weird to be considered normal or ordinary. But do normal, ordinary people seem like normal, ordinary people because they like to see themselves as such? Because they strive to fit it — beyond their quirks, peculiarities, and eccentricities? If, conversely, we see ourselves as we are, the weirdness becomes inevitable. Looking at the automatic herd going about its daily business, one tends to feel the oddness and alienation. We just need a healthy dose of self-awareness to detect and consequently also cherish our own individuality. Do not let them tame you. Stay wild, my Child.

  • Sometimes you’re reluctant to ask someone for help with a certain matter. Because you somehow feel they cannot be fully trusted to deliver, while still entertaining the possibility that you may be wrong, perhaps even silently hoping that you are. When, indeed, they do turn you down, you have no one but yourself to blame for going against your initial intuition — that inner gut-voice who seems to know things without knowing how it knows. This can be frustrating yet also liberating.

  • I want to do some things to you they haven’t yet invented words to describe. Until someone does, let us embrace this lustful silence.

  • There is a rare breed of souls who are like lighthouse beams. While you are naturally mesmerised by their shining light, you can only approach them from afar before having to steer away. Those are — in the words of Plato — the light-bringers, way-showers, and truth-tellers of mankind, who collectively hold the cosmic torch to help humanity throughout the darkness and onward forward toward the light. Eternally consumed by their inner fire, those beings tend to leave sparks of light wherever they go. Shine On and On.

  • An illusion is a distorted form of perception. The biggest illusion of all is that your own perspective isn’t distorted. A philosopher is therefore he who acknowledges his own delusions then finds joy in analysing them.

  • The problem with humanity is that most people tend to be obedient and complacent citizens who are conditioned to do as they are told. Like meek, submissive cage rats stuck in a routine self-defeating life, they are simply a cog in the machinery of the system. No autonomy, and certainly no freedom.

When every once in a while someone rebels by deserting the herd, they are often met with resistance — from the system, but also from the cogs in the system who wholeheartedly rely upon it. Whether they are social customs, religious superstitions or family traditions, the average population is attached to old patterns like peas in a pod. In actual fact, they themselves are the batteries that feed the matrix; without them, the whole paradigm would crumble.

As such, the deserting agent is then seen as an enemy, as someone who can jeopardise the well-being of the entire matrix. So they try to enslave them back; to enforce their rules and regulations on them.

How to gain one’s freedom, autonomy, and most of all one’s humanity is to create your very own system, your own reality. Thereby becoming the sole master of your destiny, the decision-maker, the Sultan.

Rebel my child, rebel with all your might and heart and soul. Take your life back into your own hands — your humanity. While it requires incredible strength and courage to desert the comfortable safety of the herd, it is the only way for the nomad lion to one day become the King of the Jungle… his own. Now break free. Fly away. Shine on.
