• Life is too short to live it according to someone else’s idea, opinion, or mode of thinking.

• The true golden gems of life are those who are kinder to us than we are to ourselves. Whenever found, keep them close.

• If you turned up alright as an adult in general or as a parent in particular, remember that your parents didn’t really know what they were doing, either. They just learned along the way. Now look at you.

• One cannot expect to serve humanity as long as their cup is empty. Fill it with whatever virtues, and vices, you may see fit, then you can go to work. Go out and do, learn from the doing, then share your findings as you teach from the knowing. Nothing, you see, gives a man more credibility than saying “I have been there”. For experience can never be studied or bought and that is why it’s the mother of all wisdom.
 Make it a conscious choice to replenish your cup… until you become the cup.

• The only reality in which you will truly fit is one that you have created yourself.

• If you ever had a chance to have sex with someone, or even just kiss, then happen to repeat it 20-25 years later, you will be hit right in the feels by such a tantalising experience. It actually feels like coming home or like returning to a planet you once lived in. Pure bliss. Obviously that ‘someone’ is not your spouse or long-time partner. 

• When seeking to live by our own inner truth and lead an authentic existence, some people’s lines must be crossed. It means we stood up for something — a core moral value or a cause — or someone. If everyone likes us, there is most likely a certain degree of inauthenticity and people-pleasing floating around and it would be a good time to pause and reflect. A reason why people-pleasures make terrible “writers”.

• What many women seem to essentially want is someone who can listen to what they aren’t saying — that which lies beyond words… and egos.

• Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like a mofo. 

• Whenever someone shares with you a sad personal story or tragic event while still keeping up their smile and sense of humour, be certain they have died inside many times over.

And, Ladies and Gents, Numero 68 is here, meaning 680 reflections over the course of the past five years. Me thinks it would be a neat idea to maybe have 200 or 300 in one book. Then follow it by another 200-300 in the sequel. I will also add one of my photos to each reflections. So it’s the philosophy plus the photography.

• The more you raise your vibrations, the clearer the vision of your mind and heart become, the more aware you are of other life forms.

• We grow only when we let go. The reality is, many are stuck in the phase between the caterpillar and the butterfly. They are not the first anymore; yet because they fear and resist change, they are not open to the chance of becoming the latter. The one and only way to fully become who you essentially are at the core is to spread your wings fearlessly and trust that Life will lift you up to undreamed of heights. As the Zen proverb reminds us: “Let go or be dragged.” 

• The most efficient way to stop others from asking you for help is to choose to lecture them or go with “I told you so” whenever they do.

• My Dear, only if you knew how much you already know. There is a good reason why inner, universal truths seem to always be revealed to us as an act of recognition and remembrance rather than one of discovery. For they have been there all along. You see, part of the process of awakening to our true nature, to the conscious experience, consists of you remembering who you essentially are before all the conditioning, labelling, and mind-corruption. Only when you dig deep and come to know yourself — your naked, unlabelled self — will you finally realise that you are the consciousness of Mankind. You are the god of the trillion of atoms, molecules, neurons, and never endings which make you YOU. For you create your own reality, and no one can take this away from you. Now act like it.

• The sense of being fully yourself, as in madly and unapologetically, is a luxury denied to many.

• Just because someone isn’t a dickhead with you — for whatever reason — doesn’t necessarily make them not a dickhead by default. If you truly wish to understand the true nature and human essence of someone, look beyond your self. Simply observe how they treat those who can do nothing for them — neither good nor bad. Then their true character will appear to you as clear as the morning sun.

• We do not become grateful by being happy; we become happy by being grateful. The more grateful you are, the more you attract people, situations, and things to be grateful for. Gratitude is the ultimate Attitude.

• Heal Thyself to a HealThy Self NowHere other than Now Here.

• Whoever convinced you that you’re not good enough had also been previously convinced they were not good enough. The only way out of this unhealthy cycle is by knowing your true self through self-actualisation. Only then can one begins to shine like the stars we all essentially are. Shine on and on.

• Never judge a book by its look. For everyone has a story if we are willing to listen.

• Man’s true greatness lies in two things: Seeing the greatness in others, especially when they don’t see it themselves; and how humble he can be, especially when he “makes it”.

• The only way to deal with evil in this world is to accept it. That’s the only way to set ourselves free from the darkness and reach the Light. Simply because darkness will never vanish; for that’s how the cosmos is balanced.

• May you all find Peace in your hearts and Love in your lives.

• Have you ever noticed how certain people become extra nice to you after they had wronged someone who is dear to you?

• Those who try to convince you that doing nothing is equivalent to wasting time have not yet understood what living in the Here and Now is actually one the benefits this life philosophy entails.

• Never mistake my unlove of drama for unlove of those who cause it. More or less, you see, I love everyone. It’s their toxic drama I choose to stay away from. Do I have plenty of friends or a booming social life? No — never had nor wished to have. They have always been just a few real, close ones; and solitude is something I’ve learned to cherish deeply. As John Lennon once said: “Being honest may not get you a lot of friends but it’ll always get you the right ones.”

• When you’re one of those who feel deeply and is — simultaneously — blessed and cursed to have a keen awareness to the pain of your fellow brethren, you must be selective when it comes to channeling your energy... and sensitivity. Simply to protect yourself from not going mad by overwhelm.

• Now more than ever, the Egyptian collective conscious — and unconscious — are in dire need of a therapist to help the nation heal.

• Many people make money doing what they’re told. Others make even more money just by turning blind eyes. 

• Once you stop following the news and “World Affairs” with all their negativity you’ll have energy and time to create your own headlines — your own reality. Unfollow the crowd; and the crowd may eventually follow you.

• People are usually attracted to those who believe in themselves. After all, if you don’t believe in yourself no one else will.

• Always remember that no one is responsible for your self-worth but yourself. How you feel on the inside — and consequently also on the outside — is your own job.

• The most efficient way to control people is to convince them they are not controlled. Resonating with Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe’s words: “None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free”. Why? Simply because they will never endeavour to free themselves from their shackles, remaining under control possibly throughout their entire lives.

• If you don’t define yourself you’ll be defined according to others; if you don’t master your mind someone else will do it for you.  

• Some people’s self-worth is so low, they have absolutely no problem in paying money to almost anyone who will offer them the validation they so obsessively seek.  

• Nothing beats going to bed with a clear conscience, knowing that you did your best and gave your all. For one day we may never wake up. 

• Knowing a foreign language or two is useful. But understanding body language can be even more beneficial, simply because it’s universal and extends across different species.

• Do you know what’s the wisest thing to do when someone you care about is feeling down or not their best? I’m not too sure. But it’s certainly NOT deciding then and there to give them advice; or worse, say something along the lines of “I told you so”. Actually, just being there — doing absolutely nothing — would work better. That is, if you truly care. 

• Instead of working on eradicating poverty and hunger, the ones in charge of Egypt have been working on eradicating the poor and the hungry. 

• There is nothing more irritating, disempowering, or even sadder than a whining grown-ass individual. If we have time and energy to complain, we have time and energy to do something about it. “Tout simplement”, as the French-Kissers say.

•  Life is too short not to let go of that which does not serve us.

• People who have an obsessive compulsion to control others usually do so because they have lost control over a certain aspect of their lives — as a compensation, which often occurs on the subconscious level without them noticing.
  
  The same can be said about those who choose to only see the flaws and imperfections in others. Their insecurity deludes them to believe that being the first to notice the bad in others will give them a certain advantage, which will overshadow their own flaws and imperfections, hence feeling better about themselves.

• The secret to women over 50 is that they know what they want as they know how to get things done. For one, their decision-making about compatibility has reached its apex. Most are over the insecurities and past relationships and began loving themselves for who they are; hence they are comfortable in their own skin — a feature that clearly shows on the person… any person. Confidence also translates into sexiness.
  
  Another perk is that they are wise enough to give the man that attention his male ego is seeking — making him feel like the King of The Castle. Yet at the very same time, in case of dating, they do not really need the men in their lives, simply because they’ve got their own lives together.
  
  By this age, you see, the majority are equally done with obsessing over their biological clock or having children. This is a significant load off any woman’s shoulders. This is also a big plus for the man they are with, emotionally and sexually.
  
  Naturally, said psychological maturity and the balance it embodies give those women a certain nurturing quality many of the younger ones seem to lack.

• “Her inhibited, unimaginative mind sucked the life out of every single atom within her. Her thoughts and fantasies, lips and skin, even lady garden … were all dry as the Atacama desert. When he tried sharing some of his fluids so that they may flow together it was seen as a system defect — since dryness is her default.”

• Nothing beats going to bed with a clear conscience, knowing that you did your best and gave your all. For one day we may never wake up. 

• People whose only interests in life derive from and revolve around following the news — politics, sports, World Affairs — contribute almost nothing to the human endeavour. Such divisive matters “fill up the horizon of their [those consumers] minds,” as George Orwell succinctly put it in 1984. “To keep them in control was not difficult.” 

• If you do not follow your dream or passion, your clever mind will usually find the most elaborate excuses as to why you wouldn’t do it.

• Before knowing who you authentically are at the core you get to know who you aren’t. For knowing what we don’t want is a significant step toward what we do want.

• We cannot force people to perceive anything in a certain way. When their time comes, and if the matter is worthy of being perceived, they may get to see the other perspective.

• People on the streets tend to walk slower in less developed countries than those in more advanced ones. One possible reason is because the latter are healthier. Another is that in advanced societies people are busier and have things to do as opposed to aimlessly strolling along.

• Never settle to please or conform. That which does not come from within, you can do without.

• A reason why women tend to possess that intuitive inner knowing is, I think, because they give birth to the living as well as bury the dead. So they are capable of “seeing” beyond the veil of reality.

• Question everything including yourself, then redefine it accordingly. For unquestioned answers are way more dangerous than unanswered questions.

• The more you know yourself, the more following others’ experiences will seem futile. Through direct experience, self-knowledge then becomes the journey during which our inner truth is found and owned. This Rabbit Hole is a bottomless pit, an everlasting endeavour guiding the soul as it keeps spiraling closer and deeper towards its inner core.

• If you knew the true magickal power of a simple word of appreciation or encouragement, you wouldn’t miss a chance to share one with whoever deserves it.

• One cannot help wondering if that that same die-hard-fan collective passionate energy the Egyptian people have for soccer in general and Mohamed Salah in particular could be channeled towards a different direction, perhaps the Jan 2011 Revolution would have not been hijacked. 

• When both eyes are closed the third will guide you towards mystical heights.

• Drumming for men is very much like sex. Some fast drummers play like they are constantly ejaculating ― which forces them to stop after a while to be able to start again; while others learn how to prolong the orgasm until it becomes a state of mind, eventually leading to explosive Tantric ecstasies.

• When you become fully and openly yourself, living your own truth, you will inspire certain people to do the same. You may likely also trigger the discomfort and insecurities of others who are still trying to find a way to become their true selves and to live their truths. This defensive, projective reaction has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them and where they are in their journey. For it is a mere egoic reflection of their own emotions, perceptions, and experiences — which often occurs on the subconscious level, without them noticing. Down deep inside, you see, most know the inner work must be done; yet their egos usually stand in their way — by making it a habit to constantly keep looking for excuses, in order to justify their inability, inaction, or lack of courage. If some will occasionally take it out on you, reckon that it’s their story they’re mirroring, not yours. We should actually be kind and compassionate to them anyway. They need it the most. After all, Love is the way.

• The wiser one becomes, the less they feel the need to explain themselves or prove their views to anyone.

• An unquestionable way to disconnect is to reconnect with Mother Nature. Connecting always feels so right, so natural, so native, instinctive, inborn and innate. Make sure you always find time for Mother Nature — she likes to be appreciated every once in a while. ⠀

• Ever flickering between a faint glimmer and shining brightly, the creative artist is like a twinkling star. Their time of hiding in the darkness is the fuel that enables them to glow across the sky when the ‘light’ time comes. For them, embodying the significance of their insignificance by being nothing and everything simultaneously is the greatest poetry there is.

• One thing I love about taking photos of people is how to find elaborate ways to make them loosen up and naturally smile in front of the lens, reaching that connection, especially with strangers.

• When people become fully and openly themselves, living their own truth, they will inspire some to do the same. They will also trigger the insecurities of others who are still trying to find a way to become their true selves and live their truths. Down deep inside, the latter know the inner work must be done; yet their egos will often keep looking for excuses to justify their inability, inaction, or lack of courage.

• It took years to realise that the outbursts of rage and fits of anger some people close to me would occasionally get into were nothing but involuntary cries of help masked as emotional expressions.

• Zen simply means a state of meditative absorption. Whether meditating, drumming, painting, walking or doing the dishes, it matters not what activity takes one up there.

• Behind almost anything and everything there is an interesting story awaiting its storyteller.
